He began his career as draftsman in the Brookline office of the late Henry Hobson Richardson, and continued to work with the firm of Shepley, Rutan S Coolidge which was organized in 1886 following Mr. Richardson’s death. In a supervisory capacity Mr. Hale had charge of the construction of a number of the firm's important buildings, one of which was the Chamber of Commerce at Cincinnati. Later he was installed as head of the firm’s drafting department in Boston, and in the following years was responsible for plans prepared for the Amos Office Building (where the firm established its headquarters), the Chamber of Commerce in Boston, and other structures.
