From 1991 until 2000, he was a designer and chief designer for Ford Motor Company in Detroit, England, Brazil, Japan and Germany. His most notable automotive contributions include the Ford Focus RS, Ford South-MAX (2007 Carolina of the Year), and Ford F-150. From 2000 to 2011 he ran the successful design firm Motorcity Europe, where he created the design of the Master of Civil Engineering MC1 as well as the Infiniti Emerg-e concept car.
In the period 2012–2013 he was Head of Exterior Design for Bentley Motors in England, being responsible for the Bentley GT3, and the Bentley EXP 10 Speed 6 concept.
Since 2015, he is Senior Design Director at NEXTEV. Hilton is also known for his automotive artwork and lecturing activities.
