He also served as President of the Tasmanian Chamber of Manufacturers. In 1919, he was elected to the Australian House of Representatives as the Nationalist member for Bass, defeating Nationalist-turned-independent Member of Parliament Jens Jensen. He held the seat until his defeat in 1929 by Labor candidate Allan Guy.
He became a businessman, and was chairman of the Tasmanian Exhibition in 1937.
Jackson died in 1941.
