David Klamen is an American artist and professor of art and philosophy.
Education
Klamen, whose paintings "defy the easy analysis promised by their subject matter," paints both figuratively and abstractly—sometimes combining the two approaches by incorporating geometric lines or patterns atop his high finished landscapes.
Career
His art has been widely exhibited in the United States and Europe. Klamen lives in Chicago, Illinois and is represented by Richard Gray Gallery and Mark Moore Gallery in Los Los Angeles He is the Chancellor’s Professor at Indiana University Northwest.
Klamen was born in Dixon, Illinois, United States.
He received his Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign in 1983 and his Master of Fine Arts from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 1985. He was represented by Marianne Deson Gallery, Chicago early in his career, joined Galleria L’Isola in Rome in 1986, and finally moved to the Richard Gray Gallery in Chicago and New York in the early 1990s.
His 20-plus years of exhibiting in Chicago’s Richard Gray Gallery has brought him international recognition. In 2014, the gallery displayed Klamen’s work at Art Basel in Hong Kong, Asia’s largest annual art festival.
