David Loder is the son of Simon Loder, of the family of Loder Baronets, by Sandra Fleming, a descendant of Robert Fleming (financier). He was educated at Eton College. He began his professional career at Newmarket Racecourse in 1992 and trained for thirteen years including for Godolphin Racing before retiring in 2005.
Loder retired after suffering from a virus that prevented him from training as well as he had previously.
