David Matthew Lyons

Background

David Matthew Lyons was born on March 4, 1954, in Bushmills, Northern Ireland.

Education

From 1972 to 1973 David studied at the University College in Cardiff, Wales at the faculty of Archaeology and classics. From 1973 to 1976 he studied at the department of Trent Polytechnic at Derby College of Art and Technology in Derby, United Kingdom.

Career

Lyons is a photographer, designer of the new Wordsworth Museum at Dove Cottage in Grasmere, Cumbria, United Kingdom. Since 1976 he was a picture editor of Ballymena Guardian in Northern Ireland.

From 1977 to 1979 David served as an advisor to the Photography, Film, and Video Panel of the Northern Arts Association of England and, during the same years, he held a fellowship in creative photography from Northern Gas/Northern Arts.

Working in 35mm and 6 x 7cm formats, the photographer works in documentary and land-scape, his main interests being in atmosphere, surrealism and visual experimentation "without resort to manipulation of subject."
