David Matless was born in the United Kingdom.
David Matless serves as a professor of Cultural Geography at the University of Nottingham. He published his first book Landscape and Englishness in 1998. Together with Timothy Wilcox he wrote A Day in the Sun: Outdoor Pursuits in the Art of the 1930s that was published in 2006. Later he wrote In the Nature of Landscape. Matless's latest book The Regional Book was published in 2015. He also was a contributor to periodicals, including Progress in Human Geography, Society and Space, Ecumene, Rural History, and Journal of Design History. His wider areas of publication include the life and work of ecologist/artist Marietta Pallis, British geographical studies of the Eastern bloc, geographies of sound, the landscapes of a documentary film, and the geography of ghosts.
