He was also a contestant on Are You an Egghead?, upon appearing on Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?. Rainford was educated at Manchester Grammar School and Parrs Wood High School. He has a daughter, Ella, via his then partner Tina.
Rainford is of Jamaican heritage.
