Background

David E. Sumner was born on June 24, 1946, in Bushnell, Florida, United States. He is the son of Joseph and Ruth S. (Hoffman) Sumner.

Education

Sumner graduated from Stetson University with a bachelor's degree in 1969 and received his Master of Divinity from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary ten years later. He also earned a Master of Sacred Theology degree at the University of the South in 1983 and his doctorate at the University of Tennessee in 1989.

Career

Sumner started his career as the editor and director of communications for the Diocese of Southern Ohio in Cincinnati in 1981. In 1988, he became an editor and publisher for Christian Writers Newsletter.

From 1990 and till his retirement, Sumner taught journalism at Ball State University. After retiring, he continues to write and edit, living in Indiana.
