David Wenham graduated from Pembroke College, Cambridge, from which he received his Master of Arts in 1967. In 1970 he completed his studies at Victoria University of Manchester (now University of Manchester) earning his Doctor of Philosophy.
Mr. Wenham held the post of a secretary at Inter-Varsity Fellowship, London, England, between 1971 and 1974. He was a lecturer in New Testament studies at Union Biblical Seminary, Yavatmal, India, from 1974 till 1979. In 1979-1983 David Wenham served as a head of gospels research project of Tyndale House, Cambridge, England.
In 1981, David Wenham began part-time training at Ridley Hall, Cambridge, an Evangelical Anglican theological college, in preparation for ordained ministry. He was ordained in the Church of England as a deacon in 1984 and as a priest in 1985.
In 1983 he was appointed tutor in New Testament studies at Wycliffe Hall, Oxford, England. Since 1995 he acted as an associate priest at Shelswell Group of Parishes.
From 1996 to 2002, he was a non-stipendiary minister (NSM) in the Benefice of Shelswell in the Diocese of Oxford. From 2003 to 2007, he was an NSM at St Michael's Church, Cumnor. He left Wycliffe Hall in 2007. In 2007, David Wenham was appointed as Senior Tutor in New Testament at Trinity College, Bristol. Since 2012, he has been a part-time tutor in the New Testament. He returned to St Michael's Church, Cumnor in 2013, and serves as a NSM in his semi-retirement.
David Wenham married Clare Richards on April 13, 1974. They are the parents of two children: Alan, Simon.
