This book grows out of a survey we made of 112 families in which incest occurred. We did intensive group therapy with 20 of the parents involved. and some of the children. Part I will discuss what incest is in its various forms, how the taboo against it started, how incest relates to sexual misuse and abuse, and what problems parents face in drawing the line between affection and sexual stimulation. Part II examines who commits incest and what the characteristics are of the incestuous family. Part III examines the causes and condition. Part IV considers incest cues and consequences, what signs appear when incest occurs, what psychological and emotional marks are left by the experience and what the factors are that both minimize and exacerbate the damage. And Part V discusses what parents can do to keep the problem from occurring in their family.
