Updegraff, David Brainard was born on August 23, 1830 in Mount Pleasant, Ohio, United States. Son of David and Rebecca (Taylor) Updegraff.

Education

Attended Haverford College, 1851-1852.

Career

Began Quaker meetings in his home, 1869. Leader popular summer gatherings at Mountain Lake Park, Garret County, Maryland., Pitman Grove, New Jersey, and great interdenominational camp meetings in East and West. Exponent of religious thought called Pentecostal Christianity.

Advocated introduction of singing and pastoral leadership into Quakerism.

Edited periodical Friends’ Expositor, 1887-1893. Author: Old Corn (volume of sermons and addresses), 1892.
