"In this revised and significantly expanded second edition, distinguished scientist Dr. David B. Fogel presents the latest advances in both the theory and practice of evolutionary computation to help you keep pace with the most recent developments in this fast-changing field. In-depth and updated, EVOLUTIONARY COMPUTATION shows you how to use simulated evolution to achieve machine intelligence. You will gain current insights into the history of evolutionary computation and the newest theories shaping research today. Fogel thoroughly reviews the ""no free lunch"" theorem and includes a discussion of findings that challenge the very foundations of simulated evolution. This second edition also presents the latest game-playing techniques that combine evolutionary algorithms with neural networks, including their success in playing competitive checkers. Chapter by chapter, this comprehensive book highlights the relationship between learning and intelligence. EVOLUTIONARY COMPUTATION features an unparalleled integration of history with state-of-the-art theory and practice for engineers, professors, and graduate students of evolutionary computation and computer science who need to keep up to date in this developing field." Fogel, David Bruce was born on February 2, 1964 in La Jolla, California, United States. Son of Lawrence J. and Eva M. Fogel.
Bachelor of Science in Mathematics, University California Santa Barbara, 1985. Master of Science in Engineering, University California San Diego, 1990. CPhil in Engineering, University California San Diego, 1991.
Doctor of Philosophy of Engineering, University California San Diego, 1992.
He is currently Chief Executive Officer of Natural Selection, Incorporated. He is probably best known for his research project, Blondie24, in which a machine evolved itself into an expert checkers player. Doctor Fogel was the founding editor-in-chief of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Transactions on Evolutionary Computation, and general chairman for the 2002 Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers World Congress on Computational Intelligence.
He is the author of six books and over 200 publications in evolutionary computing and neural networks.
Doctor Fogel was president of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Computational Intelligence Society in 2008-2009.
