Background

Dyer, David Patterson was born on February 12, 1838 in Henry Company, Virginia, United States. Son of David and Nancy R. Dyer.

Education

Moved to Missouri, 1841. Educated St. Charles College.

Career

Admitted to bar, 1859. Practiced in Pike and adjoining counties until 1875. Prosecuting attorney, 3d Judicial Circuit, 1860.

Recruited and commanded 49th Missouri Vol. Infantry during Civil War. Member Missouri House of Representatives, 1862-1865.

Secretary Senate, 1866. Member 41st Congress (1869-1871). Removed to St. Louis, 1875.

Appointed United State Attorneys, 1875. Prosecuted the “Whiskey Ring,” 1875-1876. Candidate for government of Missouri, 1880.

United State Attorneys Eastern District Missouri, 1902-1907. United States district judge same district, April 1, since 1907.
