Fairleigh, David William was born on November 28, 1853 in Cloverport, Kentucky, United States. Son of James La Rue and Jane (Murray) Fairleigh.
Educated private schools, Brandenburg, Kentucky, to 18. Bachelor of Laws, Law Department, University of Louisville, 1874 (Doctor of Laws, 1912).
Practiced in partnership with James W. Lewis, as Lewis & Fairleigh, Brandenburg, 1875-1887. Removed to Louisville, 1887, and formed partnership with Frank P. Straus, as Fairleigh & Straus. Son James F. admitted to firm, 1903, and title became Fairleigh, Straus & Fairleigh.
Retired, 1919. President Board of Trustees, University of Louisville.
