Served in the South-East of Scotland Artillery from 1894 till the regiment was disbanded, 1909. As Aide-de-camp and Private Secretary to Sir Hubert East. H. Jerningham, Knight Commander of Saint Michael and Saint George, Governor of Trinidad and Tobago, 1897 -1900. Succeeded to entailed estates of Wedderburn, Paxton, and Billie on death of his father, 1901.
Member of Berwickshire County Council.
