Friesen then moved to CTV as a national reporter for the network, and an anchor for CTV NewsNet. She previously served as a backup host for CTV"s Canada Department of Administration and Management and a parliamentary reporter for CTV News in its Ottawa bureau.

She moved to National Broadcasting Company News in 1999, and was a foreign correspondent in the network"s London bureau.
While at National Broadcasting Company, Friesen covered international stories including the Israeli Palestinian conflict and the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. Friesen also spent month in various Middle Eastern countries, covering stories such as the kidnapping and murder of Wall Street Journal reporter Daniel Pearl in Karachi. Friesen also covered elections in the United Kingdom, and later returned to Vancouver to take part in National Broadcasting Company"s coverage of the 2010 Winter Olympics.
