Brown received a BA from Brooklyn College, New York, in 1960 and an MA in Musicology from New York University in 1965.
Originally a music teacher, Brown then became a freelance photographer for such publications as Opera News, New York, Time-Life Books, Holiday, Redbook and House &) Garden.
Brown worked with both dye-transfer color prints and silver prints, and did some black-and- white before 1969. His main concern, the subject, he represented clearly and faithfully. He is known chiefly for his color landscapes.
