From 1978 to 1982 Debbie Isitt attended Lordswood Girls’ School (now Lordswood Girls' School and The Sixth Form Centre) in Birmingham, England and the Coventry Centre for the Performing Arts from 1983 to 1985.
Career
Debbie Isitt spent her youth touring the world with her internationally renowned theatre company, Snarling Beasties and Debbie’s play The Woman Who Cooked Her Husband (1992) is still performed all over the world. She was a co-founder and artistic director of this company. Snarling Beasties disbanded in 1996. After several successful London Seasons (Royal Court Theatre, Donmar Warehouse etc.), Debbie toured the world with her productions performing at several major international theatre festivals including Australia, New Zealand, United States, South America, Hong Kong and beyond.
In 2001 Debbie adapted a large-scale stage production of Dodi Smith’s One Hundred And One Dalmatians for the Belgrade Theatre, Coventry, before moving into filmmaking. In 2005 Debbie won a BAFTA for her adaptation of the Jacqueline Wilson novel The Illustrated Mum for Channel 4 and more recently she directed a TV series Love and Marriage for ITV starring Alison Steadman. Nasty Neighbours, a highly successful play that premiered in 1997, became Isitt’s first full-length motion picture.
In 2009, Debbie released her third feature film, Nativity! Starring Martin Freeman. Her follow up Nativity 2: Danger in the Manger starring David Tennant was released in 2012 and took over £1.6 million in its opening weekend, making it the top new United Kingdom release.
In 2014 the third film in the series, Nativity 3 "Dude, where’s my donkey?!" starring Martin Clunes and Catherine Tate was released. Nativity Rocks! (2018) is the fourth installment of the Nativity film series by Debbie Isitt. It stars Simon Lipkin, Celia Imrie, Craig Revel Horwood, Helen George and Ruth Jones.
