Denis Leary is an American actor, writer, producer, singer and comedian. Leary was the star and co-creator of the U.S. TV series "Rescue Me".

Denis Leary was born on August 18, 1957 in Worcester, Massachusetts, United States. His mother, Nora (Sullivan) was a maid, and his father, John Leary, was an auto mechanic. Being the son of Irish parents, Leary is a citizen of both the United States and Ireland.

Denis attended Saint Peter's High School, now Saint Peter-Marian High School, in Worcester and graduated from Emerson College, Boston with a Bachelor of Arts in English in 1979.

Leary is a comedian and actor. He has performed as a stand-up comedian. His work includes off-Broadway performances: "No Cure for Cancer" in 1991-1992, "Birth, School, Work, Death" in 1993; television appearances: "No Cure for Cancer" in 1990, "A-hole" in 1993, as Jake in “Lust,” National Lampoon’s Favorite Deadly Sins in 1995, and host of "Comics Come Home" in 1995. His films appearances include "National Lampoon’s Loaded Weapon I", "The Sandlot, Who’s the Man?", "Judgment Night", and "Demolition Man", all in 1993; "Gunmen" and "The Ref", both in 1994; "The Neon Bible", and "Operation Dumbo Drop", both in 1995; and "Two If by Sea" in 1996. Leary is co-founder and director of Emerson College Comedy Workshop.

My parents, you know, prayed all the time, took us to Mass. And my father would sometimes swear in Gaelic. It doesn't get more religious than that. But, no, after a while, they taught us wrong. I didn't raise my kids with the fear of God. I raised my kids with the sense of, you know, to me, Jesus was this great guy...."

Leary describes himself as a "Jack Kennedy Democrat" with some conservative ideologies, including support for the military. Leary told Glenn Beck, "I was a life-long Democrat, but now at my age, I've come to realize that the Democrats suck, and the Republicans suck, and basically the entire system sucks. But you have to go within the system to find what you want".

Leary is an ice hockey fan, and has his own backyard hockey rink at his home in Roxbury, Connecticut.
