Career
Born in Ballincollig, County Cork, O'Riordan first excelled at hurling in his youth. He arrived on the inter-county scene at the age of seventeen when he first linked up with the Cork minor team. He made his senior debut during the 1960 championship.
At club level he is a one-time All-Ireland medallist with Glen Rovers. He began his career with Ballincollig while he also played Gaelic football with St. Nicholas'
Throughout his career McCarthy made 20 championship appearances. His retirement came following the conclusion of the 1968 championship.
