Denise Little

Background

Denise Little was born on June 14, 1957, in Silver City, New Mexico, to Lowell, a wine importer, restaurant manager, and chef, and Clella Marie Little, a medical insurance specialist; maiden name, Von Tress; later surname, Kubiak.

Education

In 1975, Little entered the Rice University, graduating in 1980.

Career

Denise Little has worked in publishing for many years as an executive editor for Tekno Books and as a national book buyer for Barnes & Noble/B. Dalton Bookseller. At the latter, she launched and wrote the company’s genre magazine Heart to Heart during its first two years of existence. She has been a bookseller, a book buyer for more than a thousand stores, a writer, an editor, and an anthologist, often simultaneously.

Achievements

• Denise Little is known for editing more than 20 New York Times bestselling writers in her career. She edited her own line of romances for Kensington Publishing called Denise Little Presents.

Views

Denise's specialty is genre fiction, something Denise drawn to because of its heroic nature. In a genre book, the characters are genuinely trying to do the right thing, often in the face of epic trials and distractions. She loves watching the characters grow and succeed, as well as the freedom to invent new worlds - universes, even - that genre fiction offers.

Quotations: "Someone once came up to me at a writers’ convention and said that she wanted to know how I planned my career so that she could try to replicate it. I was both stunned (I wasn’t aware that anyone was watching my career path that closely) and at a loss to reply. I finally told her that the only advice I could provide was to be prepared to seize the opportunity when it comes by and to work hard in the meantime."
