Career
Derek was a professional football player who played for Middlesbrough Football Club from Season 1955-1956 until he left to join Hartlepool after season 1961-1962
He played as part of a prolific forward line that included internationals such as Brian Clough, Alan Peacock, Edwin Holliday and Billy Day and scored 30 goals in 119 appearances. He retired from the game in 1964 after scoring 16 goals in 89 appearances for Hartlepool United.
