Career
He was also leader of the Welsh Local Government Association from 2005 to 2008 and deputy leader from 2008 to 2009. He was elected to Neath Portuguese Talbot County Borough Council in 1995. He became leader of the Labour group, and leader of the council, in 2004.
Membership
He has served as a full-time trades union official, and is a member of the Transport and General Workers' Union section of Unite.
