Desmond Barongo Nyagwoka

Background

Desmond Barongo Nyagwoka was born in Nyamira, Kenya, to Mathew Nyagwoka Onyambu and Rael Nyaboe. He was raised in Kenya’s Nyanza region, where he developed an early interest in engineering and infrastructure development.

Education

Nyagwoka earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Nairobi in 2011. His academic training provided a foundation in structural engineering, construction management, transportation systems, and infrastructure development.

Career

Nyagwoka began his professional career as a Civil Engineer Intern with the National Construction Authority of Kenya between 2011 and 2012. He subsequently joined the Narok County Government, where he worked as a Civil Engineer from 2012 to 2014 and participated in local infrastructure and public works projects.

Between 2014 and 2015 he served as Assistant Superintendent Engineer with Gibb Consultants Africa, gaining experience in engineering supervision and project coordination. He later specialized in quality assurance and quality control within the construction sector, holding engineering positions with several major international contractors operating in Kenya.

From 2016 to 2017 he worked with Zakhem International Limited as a Quality Assurance and Quality Control Engineer. He subsequently joined CMC di Ravenna between 2017 and 2018 and later Vinci Construction from 2018 to 2019 in similar engineering and quality management roles. His work focused on construction standards compliance, project inspection, materials quality verification, and infrastructure execution oversight.

Achievements

• Nyagwoka developed professional experience across both governmental and multinational construction environments in Kenya. His career has been particularly associated with construction quality assurance and engineering compliance within large-scale infrastructure and civil engineering projects.

Membership

Nyagwoka is a Registered Professional Engineer with the Engineers Board of Kenya. He is also affiliated with the Institution of Engineers of Kenya (MIEK), the Institution of Civil Engineers as an affiliate member, and the Union of Engineers of Kenya.
