Career
He served as the head football coach at Northwestern University from 1927 to 1934, compiling a record of 36–26–4. This ranks him third at Northwestern in total wins and sixth at Northwestern in winning percentage. During World World War II, he was a Major in the United States Marine Corps where he helped train the Marines.
In 1946, he coached the first three games of the season for the Chicago Rockets of the All-America Football Conference.
