He graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Media Arts) from Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology University and an Honours degree of Fine Arts from Monash University.

Originally born in Guadalajara, Mexico he relocated to Melbourne, Australia in 2008. During his undergraduate studies Ramirez began exhibiting at numerous Australian artist-run initiatives, followed by group shows at national and international venues such as Hong-gah Museum, Hazelhurst Regional Gallery and Arts Centre, National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts, Torrance Art Museum and WRO Art Biennale. Since then his work has been shortlisted in various art prizes held at Casula Powerhouse arts Centre, Substation Arts Centre, Fremantle Arts Centre, National Art School Gallery and The Incinerator Gallery.
Ramirez’s moving image work has been screened at numerous international festivals including Festival Internacional de la Imagen, Electronic Language International Festival, MADATAC, Videoholica, International Video Art Review, Antimatter, 25th Festival Les Instants Video and Channels:The Australian Video Art Festival.
He is one of the artists included in Forever Now, a project that seeks to launch a golden disc into space containing audio-visual artworks, among them an excerpt from Ramirez"s video aXolotl’s Happiness. Diego Ramirez is represented in Melbourne by Gallery.
