Career
Born in Larissa, Greece, he is 6 ft 3 ¾ in (192 m) in height and he plays at both the point guard and shooting guard positions on the basketball court. Spanoulis started his career playing with Gymnastikos South. Larissas in the 2001-2002 season. He later transferred to several teams including: Makedonikos, Xanthi, MENT, and American Electric Power Olympias.
Spanoulis reached the Eurocup championship game with Makedonikos during the 2004-2005 season.
Dimitris led the Greek A2 League in scoring average with Xanthi during the 2006-2007 season, with a scoring average of 27.4 points per game. He signed with Gordhandas Sunderdas Larissas 1928 in 2015, after not playing club basketball since 2012.
In Greek basketball, the two were nicknamed "The Spanoulis Brothers". He is also the brother-in-law of the Greek super model Olympia Chopsonidou.
Spanoulis was offered contracts by several Spanish Second Division teams prior to the 2007-2008 season, but he was unable to accept them as he could not leave Greece at the time.
This was due to his mother being in poor health at the time, and he needed to help to attend to her.
