Career
Born in Granagh, County, Lanigan first excelled at hurling in his youth. He arrived on the inter-county scene at the age of twenty-two when he first linked up with the senior team He made his senior debut in the 1916 Thomond Feis.
He was an All-Ireland runner-up on one occasion.
His retirement came following the conclusion of the 1926 championship. In retirement from playing, Lanigan became involved in the administrative affairs of the Gaelic Athletic Association.
He served as secretary of the County Board as well as vice-president of the Munster Council. Lanigan also served as an inter-county referee.
