He is 6"4¾" (195 m) tall. He mainly plays as a shooting guard, but he can also play as a small forward. He currently plays with Lavrio of the Greek League.
Giannakopoulos played amateur basketball for Poseidonas Kalamatas until 2004, when he started his pro career.
In 2004, he signed with Lavrio. He is the long-time captain of Lavrio.
Giannakopoulos has played in over 150 games with Lavrio, and he is the record holder of the club He was voted the Greek 2nd Division Most Valuable Player in 2011.
