Dmitri Sergeyevich Mogilevtsev is a Belarusian physicist specializing in quantum optics, quantum information, photonic crystals, open quantum systems, quantum tomography, metrology, and quantum imaging. A researcher at the B.I. Stepanov Institute of Physics, he is also known for work as a science writer and translator.
Background
Dmitri Sergeyevich Mogilevtsev was born on November 1, 1969, in Shklov, in the Mogilev Region of Belarus. He began his professional scientific career at the B.I. Stepanov Institute of Physics after completing his university studies and has remained associated with Belarusian scientific institutions throughout his career. Alongside his research, he has pursued literary and translation work in Russian and Belarusian.
Education
Mogilevtsev studied physics at Belarusian State University, completing his degree in 1991. He subsequently pursued advanced research training in theoretical physics at the Institute of Physics of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus. His doctoral research addressed the evolution and interaction of quantum systems with structured optical fields; a dissertation abstract for the candidate degree was published in Minsk in 1995. He also completed postdoctoral research at the University of Bath in 1997–1998. Later biographical records identify him as holding a Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences degree.
Career
Mogilevtsev joined the B.I. Stepanov Institute of Physics in 1991 and worked there as a researcher through 2011. His research has focused on quantum optics and quantum information, including quantum-state reconstruction, data-pattern and self-calibrating tomography, quantum metrology, quantum imaging, nonclassical light, photonic crystals, structured optical media, decoherence, and the dynamics of open quantum systems. His theoretical work has addressed anomalous group-velocity dispersion in photonic-crystal fibers, non-Markovian emitter dynamics, atom–field bound states, quantum-state reconstruction using controlled losses or noise, localization phenomena in layered metamaterials, systematic-error diagnosis in quantum tomography, and coherent propagation in dissipatively coupled waveguides. He later became a chief researcher and deputy head of the Center for Quantum Optics and Quantum Informatics at the institute. His research has included international collaborations with scientists and institutions in Europe, Brazil, Israel, and the United States, and his work has appeared in journals including Physical Review Letters, Physical Review A, New Journal of Physics, Scientific Reports, Nature Communications, and Advanced Quantum Technologies. In addition to physics, he has worked as a writer and translator from English, German, Polish, and Portuguese into Russian and Belarusian.
Achievements
Developed theoretical methods for reconstructing quantum states under imperfect, partially unknown, or noisy measurement conditions, contributing to data-pattern tomography, self-calibrating tomography, and efficient quantum-state estimation.
Advanced theoretical studies of quantum optics in structured media, including photonic crystals, non-Markovian dynamics, atom–field bound states, metamaterial localization, and dissipatively coupled optical systems.
Published more than 140 scientific works, including monographs, and contributed to the development of quantum-optical methods relevant to quantum communication, cryptography, imaging, and metrology.
