Educated in Paris (Lycee Pasteur) and Cambridge (Trinity College).


Descendant of the Princes Obolenskii and Counts Schouvaloff. Professor at Cambridge, and visiting professor at several American universities. Specialist on Byzantine history and Russian literature.

Editor of several anthologies. Lives in Oxford.
