Background

Dmitriy Mamin-Sibiryak was born on October 25, 1852 in Visimo-Shaytanskiy zavod, Perm region, the Russian Federation. Comes from the family of a priest.

Education

The writer studied at Perm Seminary from 1868 to 1872. Then Dmitriy continued his studies at Saint-Petersburg Medical and Surgical Academy (1872-1876). He also studied at Saint-Petersburg University, the Faculty of Law (1876-1877).

Career

Had his works published since the 1870s. Later Dmitriy Mamin-Sibiryak lived in the Ural, in Saint-Petersburg. At the end of June 1894, Mamin-Sibiryak visited Usman, the city in Tambov governorate (by the invitation of the Ogarkov family). From there he soon arrived at Empelevo farm, Voronezh county, Voronezh governorate, where he spent around 3 weeks with the family of Aleksandr Ivanovich Ertel.

Achievements

  • Author of many works (full collection of works, Petrograd, 1915-1917; volume 1-12; collected edition, Sverdlovsk, 1948-1951; volume 1-12). His most famous novels are «Privalov millions» (1883), many children short stories, cycle «Alena's Fairytales» (1894-1897).
