After graduate intern, then assistant professor at aclinic. 1906 defended doctor’s thesis on cardiac arhythmia. 1906-1908 worked abroad, inter alia at the Kraus Clinic, Berlin, and with F. Muller and Naunin.
From 1911 professor, Propaedeutic Clinic, Higher Women's Courses. 1917-1929 director, Faculty Clinic, then Therapeutic Clinic, 1st Moscow University. From 1920 co-founder and exec ed, journal “Klinicheskaya meditsina”.
From 1929 professor, Centr Institute of Postgraduate Medical Training, Moscow, and director Research Institute of Functional Diagnostics and Experimental Therapy, People's Commissariat of Health. Member, Learned Medical Council, Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic and Ukraine People's Commissariat of Health.
Board member, All-Union Therapists’ Social. From 1931 correspondent member, Berlin Medical Social. Delivered papers at numerous medical congresses.
Chairman, 19th Therapists’Congress, Leningrad. Trained numerous outstanding therapists, including Klucharyov, Vikhert and Vinogradov. 1938 tried with other members of “rightist Trotskyite bloc” on a charge of complicity in the murder of Gorky and Kuybyshyov.
13 March 1938 sentenced to 25 years imprisonment. Wrote over 60 works.
