At first was selling bread. In the early 1820s, he opened the first bookstore in Voronezh. Was selling books and sheet music. The range of books was focused on all layers of urban society. Since 1825, Alexey Vasilievich Koltsov visited the bookshop. Kashkin had a significant impact on his education. Alexey V. Koltsov dedicated two poems to Kashkin (1829). Since the 1840s, Ivan Savich Nikitin has been in Kashkin's shop.
After Kashkin's death, the shop passed on to his widow Lyubov Vasilyevna, (nee Polyakova) (circa 1815 - after 1877), and son V.D. Kashkinu, then to P.N. Anosov, then to M.P. Savostyanova.
Kashkin published the first library catalog in Voronezh for reading (Moscow, 1840), later the catalogs were published by L.B. Kashkina and P.N. Anosov (Voronezh, 1863-1877).
The shop in 1869 was located in the house of Alexey Vasilyevich Koltsov’s sister, A.V. Andronova, on Bolshaya Dvoryanskaya Street.
