Entered military service in the Commissariat staff. The premier-major (1796).
The author of the poems written in a sentimental spirit, published in the magazine "A Pleasant and Useful Pastime" (1797) with a postscript: "From Voronezh." In 1798 he submitted to the censorship committee the drama "The Experience of Friendship". In 1812 he produced "soldier's songs" in the form of separate sheets. Later he moved away from literary activity.
Member of the literary society "Arzamas" (since 1816).
He maintained friendly relations with Vasiliy Andreevich Zhukovsky.
