The battalion of the 22nd Guards Motor Rifle Brigade (3rd Guards Tank Army, Voronezh Front) under the command of Gulyaev was transferred to the right bank of the Dnieper River on September 23, 1943. Gulyaev distinguished himself in battles for the bridgehead and liberated the village of Grigorovka. Guards Captain Gulyaev was killed in these battles.
