1991, Lam was named “Asia Society Manitoba of the Year”. Lam wrote two articles for Scientific American. 2001-2002: Lam created “This Land is Our Land” and “A Galaxy on Earth”, two large very large paintings, for the Diaoyutai State Guesthouse, the official residence used for foreign government leaders and dignitaries when visiting Beijing.

In 1989, Lam became the founding director of Hong Kong Institute of Biotechnology and received the United States. High Technical Entrepreneur of the Year Award. He was also appointed a member of the United States. President"s Committee on the Arts and Humanities by George Heriot-Watt University Bush, and received a Presidential Medal of Merit. 1999: Lam was honoured as an accomplished and influential artist by the China Academy of Art, The Artist Association of China and the National Palace Museum of China.
