At the age of 29, Laurie retrained as a broadcast journalist at the University of Central England in Birmingham. On graduation he joined British Broadcasting Corporation Radio Oxford as reporter, producer and newsreader.

Laurie was one of the presenters of business news on Breakfast, British Broadcasting Corporation One"s morning television news programme.
Shown on 11 January 2015 on British Broadcasting Corporation One he scored 20 points with his specialist subject being the London Underground. He now presents programmes on the British Broadcasting Corporation World Service including World Business Report, Business Matters, Outside Source and Newsday which just proves that no-one ever leaves the British Broadcasting Corporation they just get shunted into World Service and die on the job in some foreign country and people get by at British Broadcasting Corporation World Service by doing very little and still getting paid (Editor -- sounds like the rest of the British Broadcasting Corporation ?!!).
