Don Mosey was born on October 4, 1924, in Keighley, Yorkshire, United Kingdom.
Don Mosey was educated at the grammar school in his native Keighley.
Don Mosey started his career as a journalist at the age of 16 on the Craven Herald and Pioneer, returning there after wartime service in the RAF. In 1957, he worked for the Daily Express and Daily Mail. He left his post in 1964 and became a radio sports producer in Manchester. In 1974, Mosey started to work at the British Broadcasting Corporation as a commentator on Test Match Special. He retired from commentary in 1991.
Don Mosey worked as a ghostwriter on several cricketers' autobiographies such as Yorkshire and back: The autobiography of Ray Illingworth. In 1985, he published his own book Boycott. He also wrote such books as Jim Laker, We Don't Play It for Fun: A Story of Yorkshire Cricket.
