Professor Saliers received his Bachelor of Arts from Ohio Wesleyan University, and both his Bachelor of Divinity (Bachelor of Divinity) and his Doctor of Philosophy from Yale University.

He was the William R. Cannon Distinguished Professor of Theology and Worship at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia until his retirement in 2007. In 2015, Professor Saliers returned to Candler as Theologian-in-Residence.
