Career
He is the younger brother of Shane Maher who has also played senior hurling for Tipperary. On 26 February 2012, Maher made his senior Tipperary debut against Kilkenny in the 2012 National Hurling League, starting at right corner back in a 2-17 to 0-15 defeat. On 27 May 2012, he made his Championship debut, starting at right corner back in a 2-20 to 1-19 victory against Limerick at Semple Stadium.
