Donald T. Okner attended Irvington High School.
He obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree from Fairleigh Dickinson University College at Florham in 1968. It was followed by a Juris Doctor degree from St. John's University School of Law three years later.
Donald T. Okner was admitted to the New Jersey bar in 1971. He then worked for a year as an associate at Jung, Rathman, Dwyer, Peer & Lisbona, Newark. From 1972 to 1974, Okner served with the United States Navy Reserve. In 1974, he became an associate at Margolis & Bergstein, Verona, New Jersey serving there till 1978 when he occupied the same post at Dwyer, Connell & Lisbona, Montclair, New Jersey. That same year, he was admitted to the United States Supreme Court.
In 1981, Okner was named an arbitrator of the American Arbitration Association. Two years later he was certified as civil trial attorney by the New Jersey Supreme Court.
Okner became a full staff member of Dwyer, Connell & Lisbona by 1986. Eight years later, he was admitted to the Colorado Bar.
Donald T. Okner has been a member of the American Bar Association, the New Jersey State Bar Association, the Essex County Bar Association, the Sussex County Bar Association, the Bergen County Bar Association, Trucking Industry Defense Association, and Trial Attorneys New Jersey. He is a member of the New Jersey Defense Association.
