Donald C. Swift attended Athenaeum of Ohio in 1955-1956. He received a Bachelor of Science degree from Ohio University in 1960. He earned a Master of Arts and a Doctor of Philosophy degrees from the University of Delaware in 1962 and 1967 respectively.
Donald C. Swift is a Professor Emeritus of History at the Edinboro University of Pennsylvania. He taught there since 1968 and retired in 1999. His special research interests are American religious, cultural, and social history. He was a member of an interdisciplinary team that teaches ethics and American education and of such organizations as the Organization of American Historians, the Society for the History of the Early Republic, and the Association for Religion and Intellectual Life. He has authored two books: Politics and Society in America, 1607-1865, published in 1976 and Religion and the American Experience: A Social and Cultural History, 1775-1997, published in 1998.
