Donald Irwin Warren was born on May 24, 1935, in Detroit, Michigan, United States.
Initially, Donald studied at Wayne State University in Detroit, where he received a Master of Arts degree in Political Science in 1959. Also, Warren attended the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, where he received another Master of Arts degree and a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Sociology.
Warren’s first book was "Black Neighborhoods: An Assessment of Community Power". Later, he published "The Radical Center: Middle Americans and the Politics of Alienation", a book, that sought to define the angry, anti-elitist political beliefs of American’s working class.
Warren’s latest work, "Radio Priest: Charles Coughlin, the Father of Hate Radio" (1996), documented the life of the Catholic priest, who hit Detroit’s airwaves in the 1930's with pro-Nazi speech, anti-Semitic propaganda and criticisms of President Franklin D. Roosevelt’s New Deal and labor unions. In "Radio Priest", Warren revealed, that Coughlin was involved with a right-wing militia, that was a forbear of today’s hate groups.
Warren’s other writings include "The Neighborhood Organizer’s Handbook" (co-written with his first wife Rachelle Warren in 1977).
A member of the American Civil Liberties Union and a veteran of the United States Air Force Reserve, Warren also researched ethnicity and urban life.
Donald also served as a sociology professor at Oakland University for more than thirty years. Moreover, he held a post of a chairman of the university's department of sociology and anthropology.
