A rare out-of-print book, this is the only one for sale on the internet as of 12/16/13. A letter to a student from a teacher/professor is written on the first page. Some light scuff marks on the back cover. Some slight yellowing of the pages. Inside the cover is an addition to the contents of th book that was added one year after publication. Introduction: "This little book is intended primarially to accompany the study and performance of the Roman cantus. The soul of L. liturgical monody---and its enormus medieval and Renaissance progeny---is its language. For musicians at least, the essence of a language is inseparable from its sounds and rythms; and these are made keen and true only when its meaning is grasped: when it has become in fact language.
