(This handbook is divided into three sections: the first i...)
This handbook is divided into three sections: the first is a detailed survey of the history and techniques of music printing and publishing (including discussion of modern computer methods) by the late Edmund Poole, Donald W.Krummel (who has also supplied a critical, annotated bibliography of the subject) and Richard Vendome. The second section, a comprehensive glossary of technical terms relating to music printing and publishing, has been compiled by Stanley Boorman. It is followed by a dictionary of music printers and publishers containing more than 700 articles; many of these have been specially written for this handbook by leading scholars in the field, while articles previously published in The New Grove Dictionary of Music and Musicians or The New Grove Dictionary of American Music have been substantially revised and updated in the light of recent research, usually by their original authors. The handbook is fully indexed.
