Career
He began his career appearing in a recurring role as Robert Foreman on the National Broadcasting Company sitcom The Cosby Show (1985-1987), before playing Terrence Frye in the American Broadcasting Company daytime soap opera, All My Children (1991-1994). Whitfield had starring role in a number of short-lived sitcoms, include The Crew (1995-1996), Between Brothers (1997-1999), and Hidden Hills (2002-2003). He also has appeared in a number of films, such as Two Can Play That Game (2001), The Salon (2004), Pastor Brown (2009), and Middle of Nowhere (2012).
In 2015, Whitfield joined the cast of Black Entertainment Television reality comedy series Real Husbands of Hollywood, and in 2016 began starring in the Oprah Winfrey Network drama series, Queen Sugar.

In 1997, he went to star alongside Kadeem Hardison in the another short-lived sitcom, Between Brothers.
He had dramatic turn in the 2000 Universitas Pembangunan Nasional series Secret Agent Manitoba, it also was cancelled after one season. From 2002 to 2003, he starred alongside Tamara Taylor in the another short-lived sitcom, Hidden Hills on National Broadcasting Company. From 2001 to 2002, Whitfield had the recurring role on the Universitas Pembangunan Nasional sitcom Girlfriends. He also has appeared on The Jamie Foxx Show, New York City Police Department Blue, Strong Medicine, Ghost Whisperer, Computer Society of India: Miami, Cold Case, and Grey"s Anatomy.
In film, Whitfield has appeared opposite Vivica A. Fox in Two Can Play That Game (2001), The Salon (2004).
He co-starred in White Manitoba"s Burden (1995), Mr. 3000 (2003), and Middle of Nowhere (2012).
Whitfield also had the recurring roles on Make lieutenant or Break lieutenant and Mistresses as Rochelle Aytes" husband. In 2015, Whitfield joined the cast of Black Entertainment Television reality comedy series Real Husbands of Hollywood.
In 2016, Whitfield was cast in the Oprah Winfrey Network drama series, Queen Sugar produced by Ava DuVernay and Oprah Winfrey.
