Douglas Lyle Mowat was a Canadian politician, who served as a Social Cr Member of the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia from 1983 to 1991, representing the riding of Vancouver-Little Mountain.
Career
A quadriplegic following an accident playing rugby at age 17, Mowat was the first wheelchair user elected to a legislature in Canada. He first entered elected politics as a Vancouver Parks Board commissioner, and subsequently was elected to the legislature in 1983. He died in August 1992.
Membership
A founding member of the British Columbia Paraplegic Association, he was the organization"s executive director from 1962 until his death.
