Doug J. Swanson was born in 1953.
Doug J. Swanson graduated from the University of Texas at Austin. Through the John S. Knight Journalism Fellowship, he had an opportunity to attend Stanford University.
Doug J. Swanson published his first novel about a private investigator Jake Flippo in 1994. In ‘Big Town’, its main character lost his job at the district attorney’s office after he was discovered having sexual relations with the wife of a prominent drug dealer. In ‘Dreamboat’ which followed the next year, Flippo was a private investigator working insurance-fraud cases. In the third Jack Flippo mystery book, ‘96 Tears’, Flippo was hired by stripper Sherri Plunkett to detect who was secretly tracking Plunkett’s daughter, Sandra, a beautiful actress seemingly unconcerned with her stalker. The mystery series was completed by two additional volumes during the subsequent years.
In addition to writing books, Swanson also serves as an investigative projects editor in the Dallas Morning News.
Doug J. Swanson is a compelling and accomplished newcomer to the mystery genre.
His mystery series about a private investigator Jake Flippo has been a finalist of the Edgar Allan Poe Award for the Best first novel by an American author. In 1994, it received the CWA New Blood Dagger award.
Swanson has also been nominated for the Pulitzer Prize in feature writing and was chosen twice as the best newspaper reporter in Texas.
